This is The Dri Journal, a newsletter about Life and Art with Adrienne in the Caribbean.
Without giving it all away in this one post, last August 2021 we decided to sell our 20 acre farm in Central Oregon and move to the Caribbean.
We’ve now been here for almost two months! It’s been a whirlwind of activity, it’s taking lots of time to recoup from the constant go-go-going, but things are starting to level out and we’ve (me and my husband, Dan) started making friends.
One thing about moving is that it is a perfect time to reinvent yourself and reorient your goals, wants, and needs. One goal I decided upon, was that I needed to make art more of a priority in my life.
It took me about a month to get into the groove after moving here at the beginning of December, but starting on January first I made the unspoken goal of “being creative every day”. I made it really attainable too, as many things count as creative! I count simple sketches, taking photos, writing a blog, setting up my website, or even guiding a friend in an art venture as creative things! You see, it’s very open ended, making this a great goal for me! With little pressure (which could make me drop it all together!).
I finished this iguana the other week, and it’s been my favorite so far. I can’t wait to show you what else I’ve done! And to talk about my loathe for the word “talent”.
I already have a blog ready to go, but I wanted to post this one first, it’s gonna be about getting started with watercolors, I will be sharing purely from my self-taught experience in watercolor. So, it’s likely not what the professional watercolorists would say as the “right” thing to do. 😂
Aside from art, I’d like to talk about my life and experiences here in the Caribbean, on the island of St. Croix. I have gone snorkeling, tried local foods, and we even have dealt with some major food poisoning!
I have mostly been sharing on my FB and IG my daily adventures and doings. I’d like to figure out how to transfer them over here effectively. :) Since I do have quite the backlog!
I might be a daily poster, who knows. I try to post daily other places, like IG, so why not here? I can write a lot more here than I can on my IG. I don’t want to overwhelm subscribers, but maybe you’ll like to see. We can evaluate later on. Now that life is getting back into the “grove of normal” and not EVERYTHING is brand new to me, I may post less.
I did enable the pay feature, this is purely if you choose to support me! and doesn’t really have much additional benefits. I will create a private FB group for these supporters! :)
I can’t wait to really get down into this blog thing. It’s been a while! I hope you choose to stick around! :)
